Student receiving a school lunch

The United States Department of Agriculture has extended flexibility that allows Prairie Central schools to offer FREE breakfast and lunch meals to ALL children in the district. The program provides meals FREE OF CHARGE to children ages 18 and under and children with special needs through age 21 regardless of enrollment in Prairie Central schools in the hopes of ensuring all children have access to nutritious food as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is extended to all children, regardless of whether students are enrolled or are learning remotely or in-person.  The program began officially for those enrolled on September 1st, and will be open to the public on September 14th.  Those who were served meals during this time will be credited for any meals paid for. The program will run through December 31st, or as long as funding is available for the program.  The hope is that the program will be able to be sustained throughout the entire school year.

All children will be automatically enrolled in the program, therefore will not be charged for any meal received during the program period.  In-person learners will simply sign up for meals “as usual” during their day. Remote learners and community members may sign up via Google Form, which will be available on the website, and must pick up their meals at designated schools.   When a return to the traditional lunch program is required, a notification will be sent to all families
